WROC - Eye on Rochester: The Pregnancy Codes
February 2006. A News8Now produced, hour-long, primetime news documentary that addressed the critical teen pregnancy issue gripping the City of Rochester. The program not only told several heartbreaking stories from a personal/street point of view, but also explored the cause and effects on the several zip codes in the city with the highest teen pregnancy rates in the country. Responsible, local journalism, the program also explored the few programs and strategies that are positively impacting this critical local issue. The program has already won a Murrow, several top NYSBA public service awards and been incorporated into several academic and social service programs. We will produce two ‘Eye On’ specials in 2007.
WROC - Today’s Family: The Public Service Series
Four (4) hour long primetime specials over the past three years (8 in total). In partnership with the leading human services non-profit organization in the community, The Hillside Family of Agencies, The Today’s Family series addresses, head-on, the difficult issues and pressures facing families in the new millennium. From teen suicide and drug abuse to the critical 34% Rochester City School graduation rate and family violence, each program focuses on a single issue and explores both the impact and possible solutions to the ever changing landscape of the local family. Each program, depending on content, also offers professional outreach through 800 numbers, web chats or service providers. The program has been credited with quantifiable results from preventing a teen suicide to helping families in the grip of violence find the strength to reach out for help. Every program in this series has also been recognized by many local organizations from the Alternatives for Battered Women to the United Way. Each program in this series has also been honored professionally from winning NYSBA’s top public service awards to an Emmy. We will produce one ‘Today’s Family’ special in 2007.
